Mrs. Matthews was a trailblazer who wore horn rimmed glasses and had a salt and pepper curl that fell across her forehead when she got excited or when she demonstrated the right way to do the “hokey pokey”. She helped me memorize my first poem. “Once I saw a little bird go hop, hop, hop. So I cried little bird, will you stop, stop, stop. I was going to the window to say how do you do, but the little bird shook his tail and far away he flew.” Thank you Mrs. Matthews!
